The thermometer says another Iowa summer has arrived. But winter continues to hang around in the form of dead trees, flowers, plants and shrubs that were unable to rebound from one the snowiest and coldest seasons on record.
I lost several perennials due to last winter’s highs and lows. Talking with my neighbors not a one said they came through the winter without some perennial loss from grasses to butterfly bushes. We have been spoiled the last few years with mild winters. Makes me rethink the zone pushing that I do with some of my plantings each year.
