WESTERN Sydney is experiencing its coldest summer on record thanks to cloud and rain associated with the La Nina weather cycle.
Tom Saunders, senior meteorologist at The Weather Channel, said Penrith had experienced average maximum temperatures of 26.2C, while Parramatta recorded an average of 24.6C.
Blacktown hit an average 25C.
Meanwhile, Sydney was only able to record an average 24.6C, putting it on track for the coldest summer since 1953.

Sydney has just ended its longest summer spell below 30 degrees in 15 years, weatherzone.com.au reports.
After a 60-day break, Sydney has finally reached 30 degrees, ending the longest summer run below 30 since 1996/97. In that summer there were 61 consecutive days below 30 degrees.
The record number of consecutive summer days below 30 degrees is 90, set in 1952/53. During that summer, not one day reached 30 degrees.

Temperatures have plummeted across Queensland during the past three days causing frost to spread well north into the tropics.
Clermont in the Central Highlands plummeted to minus three degrees on Saturday morning, 10 degrees below their July average and the towns coldest night on record. Sub zero temperatures even spread as far north as Mt Isa, their coldest night in seven years. Even mild coastal areas have dropped to single figures over the past few nights with Rockhampton recording a minimum of just three on Saturday morning, colder than any night in central Sydney for more than 20 years.

Temperatures in parts of New South Wales and Victoria have plummeted in the last few days, a stark reminder that we are albeit, just into Autumn.
Overnight minimums have been particularly low, with places such as Orange in NSW creeping to 1 degree last night. Even Sydney only managed 14 degrees, with nearby Liverpool not even making 10. However, it was the around the ranges of southern NSW and eastern VIC that the cold has bitten hardest. Perisher, NSW recorded a low of -7 degrees, that’s 10 below average and their coldest March night in at least 31 years.
