TASMANIA shivered through a cold first month of winter, with lower-than-usual night-time temperatures recorded in the South and Liawenee posting its coldest June day in almost 30 years.

Temperatures in some areas fell to almost 10 degrees below average between June 20 and June 28.

Record low temperatures were shattered in Orlando and Daytona Beach overnight after a cool front moved through the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne the temperature dipped to 64 degrees at Orlando International Airport, shattering the previous record of 66 set in 1920.

The cold June just got colder, with confirmation that the state has had its equal-coldest June night on record.

Bureau of meteorology figures show the mercury plummeted to -6 degrees at Norseman Aerodrome in the early hours of Sunday, the same reading recorded at Collie in 2006.
