Arctic air mass freezes Mississippi with temps as low as 13 degrees

It was a frigid overnight and morning across Mississippi as the coldest air mass of the season settled over the region.

Statewide, temperatures dived below freezing with temperatures as low as 13 degrees in Holly Springs. Cities of Oxford and Independence also recorded temperatures just as cold at 15 degrees.

Freezing weather across Korea burst water meters and disrupted a transport line as the country grappled with an unusually severe cold spell on Thursday.

Temperatures fell to minus 17 C, a 55-year low for February weather, in Seoul and to the lowest level since meteorological records began in some regions of the country in the morning, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) predicts severe cold to continue until at least next weekend. Early Monday, a new cold record for this winter was set in Kuhmo, where the mercury plunged to -35.4 degrees Celsius.

OK, so it’s a sunny, 70 degree day as I type this — but can you imagine this feeling cold?

You all are well aware of just how cold this spring has been up until Sunday. In fact, here is a chart, courtesy of UW Research Meteorologist Mark Albright:

But it’s not just the Northwest where it’s been cold. He has some other charts showing northern B.C. and a spot in the Yukon Territories where they’ve had a cold March, even by their standards.

But what struck me was that even in Hawaii (Hilo), it’s been below normal:
