The Sunshine State was shivering cold over the weekend, with temperatures falling far below freezing during the state’s first blast of winter.

The winter has been wimpy for most of the continental United States until recently. But a strong cold front moved through Florida this past Friday (Feb. 11) and snapped the state back into the reality of winter. The cold plunge turned Florida frigid, and a few weather records fell with the temperatures. Freeze warnings were issued, snow birds complained, and people across the state (gasp!) put on jackets.

Freezing weather across Korea burst water meters and disrupted a transport line as the country grappled with an unusually severe cold spell on Thursday.

Temperatures fell to minus 17 C, a 55-year low for February weather, in Seoul and to the lowest level since meteorological records began in some regions of the country in the morning, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said.

Referee Rob Styles deemed a small area of the Craven Cottage pitch was unplayable and decided a postponement was the only option.

It means two of today’s scheduled Premier League matches are off after this morning’s postponement of Portsmouth v Manchester City, due to a frozen pitch at Fratton Park, following overnight temperatures of -7 degrees Celsius.
