…Temperatures have been well below normal. Sunshine often has been in short supply and rain has fallen at inopportune times. It’s resulted in crops ripening slowly and some tourist havens — already dealing with a sour economy — taking an extra hit…

This summer’s wacky weather is keeping residents out of the area’s frigid waters.
“There’s hardly anyone here, most days,” said Michael Raiger, a lifeguard at Canatara Beach. “People just aren’t going in the water; and if they do, they’re not in there for long.”
Environment Canada pegged southern Lake Huron at a cool, 64 degrees, Tuesday. This time last year, the temperature was nearly 72 degrees.

INTERNATIONAL FALLS – The temperature in “nation’s icebox” dropped to 37 degrees Sunday, enough to set the ninth record low of 2009. The previous record for July 19 was 43 degrees, set in 1958.
