The cold wave that has frozen Europe since the end of January also seems to have chilled travelers’ enthusiasm. Many hotels have slashed their prices to a record minimum to attract tourists.

­A whole host of popular destinations in Europe including Prague, Budapest, Oslo and Copenhagen are seeing a price drop in February compared to January, according to the Hotel Price Index prepared by Trivago tourist web-portal.

KARACHI, Feb 7: With dry and cold continental winds blowing in the city, Karachiites experienced the coldest day in 30 years on Tuesday when the mercury fell to 21.8 degrees centigrade during daytime, said a Met official, adding that the current cold wave was expected to persist for a couple of more days.

The weatherman said that the minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday was eight degrees centigrade while the maximum was 21.8 degrees centigrade. Humidity, or the measure of amount of moisture in the air, was recorded at four per cent.

Until now, the coldest day on record for February had been Feb 27, 1988 when the mercury dropped to 22.2 degrees centigrade.

Belgium is being confronted with the longest cold snap in more than 70 years, the Met Office reports. Saturday was the 13th consecutive day with maximum temperatures during the day staying below zero degrees Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) in Ukkel (Brussels). Sunday should add another day, but after that it’s the end of the blistering cold.
