It was a frigid overnight and morning across Mississippi as the coldest air mass of the season settled over the region.
Statewide, temperatures dived below freezing with temperatures as low as 13 degrees in Holly Springs. Cities of Oxford and Independence also recorded temperatures just as cold at 15 degrees.

Extremely cold, arctic air will continue to surge across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest today, while cold air blasts south into Texas and east to the Mississippi Valley.
