Denver officially recorded 1.9 inches of new snow today, pushing the city’s cumulative 2012 February snow total into second place in the history books.

The Arctic blast of cold air that has settled in across much of the nation’s midsection arrived in Colorado Friday night and allowed the Mile High City to set two low temperature records. Two more weather records may be set today and tonight before we start to warm up on Sunday.

The storm was welcomed at ski areas, though, where the economic downturn has reduced bookings more than 8 percent from last year at some resorts.
On Friday, the slopes were packed with late-season skiers and snowboarders taking their final runs of the season most resorts close Sunday.

THE TEMPERATURE AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PLUNGED TO -15
DEGREES AT 552 PM ON THE 14TH BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF -14 DEGREES SET IN 1901. THE TEMPERATURE CONTINUED TO FALL AND BOTTOMED OUT AT
-18 DEGREES AT 635 PM.THE 15TH STARTED WITH A NEW RECORD . AT 1200 AM THE TEMPERATURE WAS
-13 DEGREES SETTING A NEW RECORD LOW FOR THE DAY. THE OLD RECORD WAS
-6 SET IN 1951. A LATER STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED IF THE TEMPERATURE
DROPS ANY FURTHER.
