There is a “nearly zero” percent chance of snow in the area, but there will be a sustained period of sub-freezing temperatures today, according to the National Weather Service.

NAPLES — The chilly weather in southern Florida this week was cold enough to force some iguanas to fall from trees.
Experts say the cold-blooded reptiles go into a deep sleep when the temperature falls into the 40s. Their bodies basically shut off and they lose their grip on the tree.

Last night was really cold at our house, and I kept checking on the boys to make sure they kept their covers on. My husband and I slept with three comforters (I really miss my down comforter), and our house certainly isn’t made for cold days.
I think it is in the 60s now, but for South Florida that is really cold, especially since our house is not made for it. I will have to turn on our oven for lunch, and I might even bake some banana bread just to keep us warm.

With temperatures possibly dropping to 28 degrees tonight, Gainesville will be under its seventh freeze advisory since October.
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville will most likely upgrade tonight’s freeze watch to a freeze warning this morning, said meteorologist Phil Peterson.
The record low for Dec. 2 was set at 23 degrees in 1911, Peterson said.
